From a happy song that evokes a smile to a familiar tune that awakens something deep from within, we’ve all experienced the power of music at Autumn Leaves. It’s hard to contain your happiness when you witness a resident go from a state of agitation or non-responsiveness to one of delight with the simple push of the play button. Music can open a window to the mind that is often closed. Whether it lasts a few minutes or just seconds, we want to foster those moments of joy at Autumn Leaves.
That’s why we’re so excited to partner with our friends at Music Is Our Weapon, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, on the Autumn Leaves Project. The Autumn Leaves Project utilizes Music Is our Weapon’s Music Care Program that pairs the latest digital music technology with volunteer-driven Music Discovery Outings to connect and deliver relevant music through personalized playlists. We’ve already seen the power of these personalized playlists to spark memories and promote cognition and engagement. Residents often smile, clap their hands, tap their toes, sing along or even dance during the Music Discovery Outings.
As part of The Autumn Leaves Project, we’re also very pleased to sponsor the Music Is Our Weapon Official South By Southwest® Showcase on March 19th, where 12 acclaimed international musicians will perform to raise awareness of our initiative to integrate music as a form of care across all Autumn Leaves communities. Additionally, our Georgetown and Northwest Austin residents will have the incredible opportunity to work directly with some of these artists on personalized playlists during the Showcase week.
