Moving Forward
You’ve made the decision for full-time care, now what should you do next? Our team is here to make this process as stress-free as possible. Here are a few quick tips on how to make a smooth transition to senior living.
Enlist the help of your family, friends, or even professionals if necessary. Sell or donate what you no longer need and begin narrowing down the items you would like to bring with you to make the move less daunting. Your apartment should reflect your personal taste, so bring the things that will make it feel just like home. Pictures, sentimental items, lamps, your favorite quilt, and other items that will help create a cozy and inviting space. Be sure to coordinate with the community management on move in dates and times. We recommend moving in the morning to give yourself plenty of time to get settled before dinner.
Managing medications is a lot of work and we are happy to take on that job for you! Be sure to make a comprehensive list of all your medications and dosages for our nurse to review. We can work together with your doctor to determine the best plan for you. Whether you are using our pharmacy partner or your own local pharmacy, we’ll work together to ensure your medications are always refilled on time.
Moving into a senior living community is major life transition that comes with a range of emotions. It’s not just about leaving a physical space behind, but also a way of life and a sense of independence. We encourage you to talk openly and honestly with all your immediate family members. Give yourself time to prepare for this move and know that there will be an adjustment period as you settle into your new home. Consider utilizing senior counseling services that can help you work through your feelings.
