This is an actual letter that was written to one of our residents (Ruby), from her loving daughter (Janet). Sometimes the most heartwarming stories don’t need any revisions – they are sparked by an inherent need to convey, what can oftentimes be very hard to express. Here, Janet shows her love and gratitude for the one woman who will forever make a difference in her life; her Mom.
Dear Mom,
Once a year, everyone takes time out to celebrate their moms. I like to think that I celebrate you every day, as you are always in my thoughts. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t appreciate your hugs, kisses, that beautiful voice– just us holding each other. Even though we don’t get to choose our moms, I would have chosen you. God knew I needed you as my mom – someone who would love me unconditionally, who would be there to guide and teach me, and show me how to love God most of all.
There are so many things I remember about growing up as your daughter – here are just a few…
I love how you would run your slender fingers through my tangled hair and caress my head, as I laid it down in your lap.
I remember how you always use to worry when I was driving home from work. How you insisted I call you when I made it home after coming for a visit. You would always stay up to make sure I was alright, even after I was married.
Oh, how I remember the countless hours you spent with your grandchildren, helping them with crafts for camp. I could always count on you. You were a lifesaver many times.
You’re the reason I can sew, and enjoy it. I remember you sitting on the floor, teaching me to pin a pattern and sew it together. You were so patient with me, and it paid off.
You taught me to make delicious pies. Those times were very special. I still get compliments on my pies, and I always tell everyone that my mom taught me.
Memories of your garden will always remain with me. Richard loved your homemade bread-and-butter pickles. My friend, Jill, loved your canned green beans. I loved summertime, when we always had fresh vegetables from your garden.
What a great wife you were for 67 years. You stood by Dad in everything he did. You were supportive! You listened! You were his partner! You were his friend! What a great example you have been to your children.
Mom, one thing that will continuously resonate, one thing that I will forever be grateful for, is how you always put your family first. You still do to this day. You have always made sure that your family was taken care of first. We were always a priority.
Thank you for being such a great mom. I love you with all my heart.
Your daughter,
Janet
