A dementia diagnosis marks the beginning of a series of changes in a person’s and family’s life. This kind of diagnosis not only affects the person living with the disease, but also has a tremendous impact on the entire family. It is critical to prioritize your own self-care and emotional health as a caregiver role. Support Groups are a great tool to aid you in your efforts.

These support groups are open to everyone wading through the dementia journey, and they are free.

Support Groups formats may vary from location to location as each session flows according to the immediate needs of the group. But generally speaking, each support group’s format includes:

  • Disease Education
  • Mental Helps
  • Compassionate Care Partners/Advocates
  • Outreach

One of the best resources for support are the very people who are on the same road you are traveling. They understand your pains, frustrations and even your more inner fears, concerns, doubt and anger with each situation—because they live it.

Support groups, sponsored by Autumn Leaves, are meetings where people of similar circumstances discuss life’s highs and lows, solutions or life-hacks. Some participants may be ahead of you and can offer guidance, others may be behind you and will benefit from your experiences, encouragement and understanding.
