Sugarloaf Centenarian: Horace

April 14, 2016

HoraceHester_SugarloafWe are privileged to care for so many wonderful folks with long and storied lives, and every so often we have the distinct honor of ringing in a resident’s 100th year! Such was the case this week when Autumn Leaves of Sugarloaf resident, Horace, turned 100 years old!

Horace is a very independent man; while he uses a wheelchair, he still gets around remarkably well. In addition to careers in car sales and land development, Horace also served as a US Postmaster in Japan at the end of the War, so we’re not surprised he’s still full of energy! He’s quite sharp, full of wit, and still has a twinkle in his eye! Horace can be found reading the newspaper each day and likes to follow the stocks in particular. We hear he’s even willing to share tips from time to time! He keeps a stash of chocolate in his room which he’s happy to share if you come by for a visit, and rarely turns down a piece of cake. Horace also enjoys finishing each day with a glass of red wine. Clearly he’s found the secret to longevity – we’re taking notes!

100 balloons filled the room for Horace’s 100th birthday celebration, and party-goers included his children, grandchildren, friends, and of course, his Autumn Leaves family. Guests signed a huge poster with well wishes which now hangs in his room as a reminder of this momentous occasion! When Life Engagement Manager April asked him what he thought of it all, he said: “Well, I think the party was a success!” We couldn’t agree more.

Happy Birthday, Horace! Here’s to 100 years!

And a big thank you to everyone who helped in making this celebration so memorable!
