You may be looking forward to Father’s Day this year. Or you may be feeling sadness or frustration. You may feel as if your dad has left you, or is leaving, bit by bit. Nancy Reagan called this “the long goodbye” of Alzheimer’s, and it can be especially painful at holidays
Maybe your father was a steady presence in your life, and you feel the loss more acutely on Father’s Day. Maybe your relationship was problematic, in which case the holiday may spark a range of conflicting and confusing emotions.
As you spend time with your dad on Father’s Day, remember that he may find your presence comforting, even if he doesn’t always remember you. Be thankful for the moments, however brief, when you do connect.
